New opportunities for steel structure industry
In 2024, China's steel structure industry is ushering in a critical period of transformation and upgrading, and technological innovation and green development have become the key words of the industry. Recently, the 2nd Steel Structure and Structural Steel Innovation and Development Forum was held in Beijing, focusing on the high-quality development of the steel structure industry and discussing the development trend of steel structure in the direction of green and low-carbon, high-quality, and digital intelligence. At the forum, experts emphasized the application potential of steel structures in the construction market, especially in the field of prefabricated buildings.
The "14th Five-Year Plan for the Steel Structure Industry and the Long-term Goals for 2035" issued by the China Steel Structure Association put forward a clear development goal, and it is expected that by the end of 2025, the national steel structure consumption will reach about 140 million tons, accounting for more than 15% of the national crude steel output, and the proportion of steel structure buildings in the new construction area will reach more than 15%. The longer-term goal is that by 2035, the amount of steel structure consumption will reach more than 200 million tons per year, accounting for more than 25% of crude steel output, and the proportion of steel structure buildings in the new construction area will gradually reach 40%, and the intelligent construction of steel structures will be basically realized.
In terms of policy support, the state has continuously increased its support for the steel structure industry, encouraged public buildings to give priority to the use of steel structures, promoted green consumption, and carried out pilot projects for steel structure housing and rural housing construction. The implementation of these policies is expected to bring a significant incremental market to the steel structure industry.
In terms of technological innovation, the digital transformation of the steel structure industry has become a key trend. Digital applications not only improve production efficiency and reduce costs, but also improve product quality and expand the possibilities of customized production. At the same time, the steel structure industry is also actively exploring the deep integration with the steel industry to achieve the coordinated development of the industrial chain.
